Infant Mental Health for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Infants with Special Health and Developmental Needs
Emotional, intellectual and physical disabilities, low birth weight, serious medical conditions, chronic medical conditions, lead exposure, developmental delay, and prematurity are all risk factors for infant mental health problems.
Conditions including developmental disorders, endocrine problems, epilepsy, and sleep disorders can appear first with behavioral or emotional symptoms.
Providing enrichment experiences that are not directly medically or therapeutically-related are important.
